NITROSTAN NITRO-FILL POLYESTER PUTTY

This body filler is extremely resistant to solvents when cured so it can eliminate bleed-through or staining on the topcoats.   When used correctly, it has great adhesion to pre-painted steel surfaces.

HOW TO USE NITROSTAN NITRO-FILL POLYESTER PUTTY

NITRO-FILL is a non-shrinking body filler which adheres to the substrate in minutes.

Dents: Preparing Surface: Once the dent is bumped or pulled out close to the original position, the proper contour may be achieved with body filler. Sand the repair area to remove all paint.  If using a chemical paint stripper, follow manufacturers instructions and safety precautions.  Remove paint about 3" or 4" around the dent and feather the edges of the old finish.  Clean the sanded area , dry and wipe with a tack cloth.

Mixing Body filler: Follow the mixing directions on the can of Body filler.  Knead the catalyst tube before using.  Do not use more hardener than is required because this may cause pinholes in the cured film. Mix the filler with the hardener with flat wiping motions rather than a stirring motion. Stirring traps air in the filler, also causing pinholes to form as the filler cures.  Mix until filler has a uniform color.

Applying Filler: Apply a thin coat over the repair area.  As you spread the filler, apply pressure on the plastic spreader. This will force air bubbles out and encourage the filler to adhere to the metal. Then apply the rest of the filler. Use smooth strokes, working from the edges toward the center. It is best to build up filler higher than the surrounding area, but do not make any one application thicker than 1/4".

Keep in mind that the filler will start to set up in several minutes.  After the filler begins to harden, it will not spread easily or bond poperly to the metal.

Allow filler to harden after filing, approximately 20-30 minutes. Drying times depend on temperature and humidity. Sand surface with a sanding block and #80 grit sandpaper. The sanding blocks helps avoid low spots. Apply several coats of filler, if necessary, to bring level of damaged area above surrounding panel.  Follow the previously described method of applying, filing, and sanding filler for each additional coat.

Priming Filler: Use your hands to feel for evenness. Remember that paint does not hide imperfections it highlights them. The final coat of filler should be sanded to within 1/16" of the desired level with #50 grit sandpaper and sanding board.  Then switch to #80 grit sandpaper and sand the filler even with the original surface. The surface is ready for THE ACRYLIC URETHANE FILLER PRIMER.
